Kupang, infoPublik - Idul Fitri prayers on Sunday (19/8) were held at 8 locations in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province.

In his sermon at NTT Police Headquarters, Muhammad Alifuddin said Idul Fitri was a momentum for Muslims in the province to maintain and step up religious tolerance and mutual respect.

"Let us continue to maintain interfaith harmony and tolerance here to make our beloved province remain in peace," Muhammad Alifuddin said, adding that continuous peace and tolerance should be implemented in daily lives and activities.

He also called on the Muslims in his sermon to be grateful for Idul Fitri festivity as a victorious day over every wrong doings and misdeeds.

Meanwhile, Kupang Mayor Jonas Salean also urged the local residents to maintain peace during the Lebaran festival which marked the end of the month-long fasting period of Ramadan.

Jonas Salean said he hoped that Kupang residents will remain peaceful on the holiday.

"Kupang must remain the most peaceful and safest city in NTT and in Indonesia," He said

He also pointed out that so far the city has been tolerant and respectful towards religion, and this should not change no matter what the situation or condition is.

Salean noted that such comfortable, safe, and peaceful living conditions in the city will also allow development in the area to be carried out in a professional and responsible manner and enhance the prosperity of local people.

"Our common hope is to hail the victorious Lebaran day in a joyful and peaceful manner," he said. (L.vi)
